A
salute to Seattle's top dogs
Taken
from the "What's Happening" section of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer
July 4-10, 2003 1.
Matt’s Famous Chili Dogs: The Old Fashioned
Hot Dog ($2.59 plus tax), a snappy-skinned, Vienna Beef all-beef hot
dog nestled in a poppy-seed
bun, served true Chicago-style: yellow mustard, neon-green sweet relish,
chopped white onions, a dill pickle spear, tomato quarters, spicy sport
peppers and a dash of celery salt.
2. The Frankfurter: A long and lean Schwarz's tight-skinned
all-beef Kosher Dog ($3.49 plus tax), topped with sauerkraut, chopped
onion, mustard
and dill relish, nestled in a warm modified French roll.
3.
Uli's Famous Sausage: Our choice is the char-grilled German Bratwurst
($4.94 plus tax) with sauerkraut and mustard in a crusty cornmeal-dusted
bun. You, however, can select any of Uli's handsome, homemade sausages
and ask them to grill it for you from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Allow 10 to 15 minutes for cooking.
4.
Late-night Pike and Pine street vendors: if you're lucky enough to
be out and about when these elusive street vendors have set
up their
charcoal grills, do not miss the opportunity to buy and eat a
charbroiled dog or Polish ($345), with your choice of condiments,
including
yellow mustard, mayonnaise from a squeeze bottle and fiery Sriracha
sauce.
5.
Diggity Dog Hot Dogs & Sausages: The Kosher All-Beef, Diggity
Dog ($3.25 plus tax), topped with mustard (there's an impressive selection),
relish, chopped onion and a dash or two of hot sauce, preferably one
that's habanero-based.
